Employers spend a matter of seconds looking at any one CV. A CV needs have a balance of the basic facts for your career and descriptive personality statements.

Every time something significant occurs in your career, record it so you don't later forget important information.

Leaving obvious gaps on your CV will make a recruiter and an employer immediately ask a lot of questions. Fill the gaps and it will make initial interview processes more effective, by ensuring all parties have the facts. Add temporary work, volunteer work or professional study.

Lying on your CV will always be uncovered. So being honest with dates and titles is paramount and ensure you have valid references available for your consultant.

Use bullet points and keep sentences short. Use the graphic design trick of leaving plenty of white space around text and between categories to make the layout easy on the eye.
