Sous Chef - Hotel Company - Maidstone Areas - Up To 33k + Benefits

Our client is looking for an experienced Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in managing a fast-paced, busy casual dining kitchen, as well as catering for hotel events and functions. This role requires strong leadership and organizational skills to ensure smooth kitchen operations, consistent food quality, and excellent customer satisfaction in both restaurant and event settings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily kitchen operations in a busy casual dining environment.

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff during high-volume service periods.

  • Oversee food preparation for restaurant service and hotel events, ensuring consistent quality and presentation.

  • Assist with menu planning and development for casual dining and special event menus.

  • Coordinate with banquet and events teams to meet catering requirements and deadlines.

  • Monitor inventory levels, control food costs, and reduce waste.

  • Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.

  • Train and develop junior kitchen staff to improve skills and efficiency.

  • Manage kitchen workflows to meet tight service timings, especially during events.

  • Assist in scheduling kitchen staff to cover restaurant and event demands.

  • Handle kitchen issues quickly and effectively during busy periods.

  • Support the Executive Chef in maintaining kitchen standards and promoting the hotel's culinary brand.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Culinary qualification or equivalent experience in a commercial kitchen.

  • Minimum 1/2 years' experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a busy casual dining restaurant or hotel kitchen.

  • Experience managing event catering or banqueting kitchens preferred.

  • Involved in all elements of cost control, H&S, Gross profit margins and can train others
  • Strong understanding of food preparation and presentation for both casual dining and events.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation best practices.

  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and event days.
