Online Interviews

We are now seeing a number of businesses using some form of online interviewing tool. That could be Skype, or Facetime or more popular Zoom. The principles for online interviews are the same.

Online interviews are a safer and more time efficient way of conducting first interviews. A few key points to remember.

• Be familiar with the technology that the interviewer is going to use. If it is Skype or Zoom, make sure you have downloaded it well before your interview and understand its functionality.
• It might be obvious, but DO NOT make odd usernames.
• You must treat this as a normal interview. Make sure you are smartly dressed and well groomed. It is also important to remember that you must be in an area that is clutter free.
• Make sure the lighting is good and that you have checked the mic and speaker functions.
• Try and focus on the interview and not on sounds outside or inside of your home. If you find yourself in a situation where you have children in the house, you can always advise the interviewer just in case there is a disturbance. We are all in the same boat.
