Hotel Financial Controller

Berkshire

Salary: C£40,000 + Dependent of experience
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Hotel Financial Controller to join the senior management team of a well-established hotel property in Berkshire.

This is a hands-on, self-accounting role requiring strong technical accounting expertise within a hotel environment. You will take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and proactive cash flow management to support the operational and strategic objectives of the hotel.

Key Responsibilities for the Hotel Financial Controller

  • Full responsibility for the self-accounting function of the hotel

  • Preparation and control of monthly management accounts, including detailed variance analysis

  • Ownership of month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

  • Cash flow forecasting, monitoring and management

  • Production of annual budgets and regular re-forecasting

  • Balance sheet reconciliations and control

  • Payroll oversight and liaison with external providers where applicable

  • VAT returns and statutory compliance

  • Liaison with external auditors, accountants and banking partners

  • Providing financial insight and support to the General Manager and department heads

  • Development and maintenance of strong financial controls and procedures

  • Supporting commercial decision-making through clear financial reporting

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager within a hotel setting

  • Demonstrable experience in self-accounting

  • Strong knowledge of month-end and year-end accounting processes

  • Excellent cashflow management and forecasting skills

  • Solid understanding of hotel P&Ls, departmental reporting and cost control

  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and analytical ability

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage competing deadlines

  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to challenge and advise senior stakeholders

Desirable

  • Accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)

  • Experience working in an owner-managed or standalone hotel property

  • Familiarity with hotel PMS and finance systems
