Hotel General Manager
Torquay, Devon
JWR is recruiting for an experienced and commercially focused General Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of an established coastal hotel in Torquay.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on hotel leader who enjoys being visible within the business, developing strong teams and delivering a consistently high-quality guest experience.
Working closely with the Group Hotel Operations Manager, you will take full responsibility for operational standards, financial performance, team development, compliance and guest satisfaction across the property.Salary £41,000 + Company benefits
The Role
As General Manager, you will:- Lead all day-to-day hotel operations across accommodation, food and beverage and entertainment
- Drive revenue, profitability and effective cost control
- Manage labour costs, food margins, bar margins, stock and hotel expenditure
- Lead, coach and develop Heads of Department and Duty Managers
- Oversee recruitment, retention, training and succession planning
- Ensure rotas are planned effectively and aligned with business demand
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, service, maintenance and presentation
- Act as a visible host, engaging with guests throughout their stay
- Take ownership of guest feedback and resolve complaints professionally
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety, food safety and company procedures
- Support menu development, portion control and waste management
- Work closely with suppliers, contractors and the wider operations team
Requirements
We are looking for an experienced hotel professional with:- Previous General Manager, Deputy General Manager or senior hotel operations experience
- A strong understanding of hotel financial and commercial performance
- Experience overseeing food and beverage operations
- Proven success leading and developing departmental managers
- Excellent knowledge of health and safety, food safety and operational compliance
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- A calm, solutions-focused approach under pressure
- A visible and hands-on leadership style
- A genuine passion for guest service and hospitality
The role is full-time, working approximately 48 hours per week across a flexible shift pattern, including weekends.
